Returnal

I’ve got little to no interest in a pomp and circumstance first post here, so I’ll try to keep this brief.

Yes, this is a website, and yes, I’m going to start writing again.

It’s been about nine months since my time at Better Collective wrapped up, the longest gap I’ve had on the content (I still hate that phrase, but it’s inescapable) front since I started my first blog in high school. I shifted around my social media activity around the same time, moving from platforms where my audiences were large and varied to ones where they were smaller and more personal – not by intent, as my reasons were more related to the overall tone shifts of the platforms – but it was still a welcome reprieve at a good time for me.

Call it a vacation of sorts. Not that I wasn’t still busy with other things, but that specific part of the brain got a long-needed rest and reset.

All the same, it’s hard to shake the hobby where I’ve been most comfortable over the years. I enjoy the process of outlining my thoughts. I enjoy the conversations that come out of them (at least, the constructive ones). I enjoy having reference points to go back to later. So in that sense, the itch is back, and I’m here to scratch it again.

With that said, this site isn’t an attempt at building the next great platform. If anything, it flies directly in the face of that. It’s built to trends at least a decade’s past, it doesn’t have a defined focus, it has no monetization plan whatsoever, and it likely won’t have much of a social media imprint. There is no ambition of “success” in a traditional sense here – success is merely having a place for my thoughts to call home.

Expect this site to function as equal parts diary and storyboard. One post may be a piece of analysis or news reaction akin to my past work. The next might be about what I’ve been up to in the previous few days. The one after that could just be something neat I want to pass along. There isn’t much of a priority being placed on focus right now, though that could change over time.

The most important part, though, is that I’ll be around again, in some way, shape or form, which I’m more excited about than I imagined I’d be. Those who know me best know that the last several years have come with highs and lows, but I’m privileged to be in a really good place once more, and I want to harness that energy in a positive way. Hopefully, this will be a useful venue.

If anyone has any questions about the above or my plans moving forward, drop a comment below, or on whatever platform you’ve seen the link to this on.

Talk soon,

Jeff

(PS: The title is in reference to the incredible Oneohtrix Point Never album, not the video game)
